The Harry W. Meador, Jr. Coal Museum in Big Stone Gap
provides "a little peek into the past, a big look at our coal mining
heritage." The museum is open year round except for the major holidays.
Hours are Thursday - Saturday, 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., and Sunday, 1 - 5 p.m. Admission is

The Southwest Virginia
Museum and gift shop are open to the public
Tuesdays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4
p.m.; Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. From
Memorial Day to Labor Day, the museum is also open on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 4
p.m. (The museum is closed during January and February for yearly
maintenance. The museum is also closed Thanksgiving Day and Christmas
Day.) Museum admission rates are $3.00 for adults, $2.00 for
children ages 6 to 12, and children under 6 are admitted free. For groups
of 10 or more, admission is $1.50 per person. Annual
passes are also available at a cost of $15 per family (covers up to four people
living in the home), $5 per adult, and $3 per child (6 - 12). For more information, please call

The "Trail of the Lonesome Pine" Outdoor Drama, the Official
State Outdoor Drama of Virginia, will be performed Thursday, Friday, and
Saturday nights, July 1 through August 28, at the June Tolliver
Playhouse in Big Stone Gap. Box office opens at 7:00 p.m. Pre-show
entertainment begins at 7:30 p.m. and curtain time is 8:00 p.m. Opening in 1964, "The Trail of the Lonesome
Pine" is the longest-running outdoor drama in Virginia. Based on the
best-selling novel by John Fox, Jr., the drama is interwoven with beautiful,
haunting folk music, some of it original, and is performed before a magnificent
72 ft. panoramic painting of Powell Valley. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for
seniors ages 55+, and $8 for children ages 4-12. Please call the Lonesome Pine

The Library Gallery in the Wise County Public Library in Wise features
monthly displays by local artists and craftspeople.
Country Cabin II
features local and regional musicians every Saturday night from 8:00 - 11:00
p.m. It is located on US 23/58A, 1 1/2 miles southwest of Norton,
Virginia. The cabin offers a family-oriented program, complete with
cakewalks, clogging, flatfootin', two-steppin', broom dances, crafts, clogging
lessons, jam sessions, and pickin' instructions. Refreshments are available. Occasional
seasonal events and special holiday programs, fundraisers, weddings, etc. are
also held at Country Cabin II. Parking and access for handicapped patrons
is provided. The Country Cabin is a non-smoking facility, and all events hosted by Appalachian Traditions are
